From Surviving to Thriving
A laptop, a little kindness and a helping hand towards a fresh start.
Tony, a talented and well-known chef, had spent years living an unconventional life - working and living aboard yachts during the summer months, but facing homelessness and uncertainty during the winter.
Following a serious mental health breakdown, Tony found himself walking away from the life and career he had built. Years of instability followed, until he finally secured a place to call home.
When Tony was referred to The CoHub for food and essential household support, he had only recently moved into secure accommodation for the first time in years. Our team helped him access food and everyday essentials, providing some immediate stability as he began rebuilding his life.
But Tony had bigger plans.
During one of our conversations, he asked whether we could help him get a laptop. It wasn't simply about having a device - it was about reconnecting with his family, managing his affairs, rebuilding his independence and finding his way back into employment.
We recognised that this one practical piece of support could unlock so much more.
Despite experiencing a sudden bereavement during this difficult period, Tony remained determined to move forward. And true to his word, within just two weeks, he was back at work doing what he loves — cooking!
Tony specifically asked us to share his story and express his gratitude for the support he received.
His journey is a powerful reminder that people don't always need someone to rebuild their lives for them. Sometimes they simply need someone to recognise their potential, remove a few barriers and give them the tools to do it themselves.
Because at The CoHub, we don't just respond to immediate needs. We help people take their next step towards independence, opportunity and a future they can believe in.
