The Community Closet

The Community Closet is a community-led clothing bank based in Hackney, rooted in dignity, sustainability, and real-life need.

What started as a one-off pandemic response - delivering 100 gifts to 100 children - has grown into a trusted, grassroots service supporting individuals and families across the borough every single week.

Through the CoHub, The Community Closet now delivers a full wraparound support model - responding to the realities people are facing every day. Alongside clothing, we support with food access, fuel poverty, and digital inclusion, ensuring people are not just getting by, but are properly supported across the essentials.

Because need doesn’t sit in one box - and neither do we.

We provide access to quality clothing, essentials, and crisis support in a way that feels human. No referrals. No eligibility criteria. No judgement.

Just a space where people can get what they need.

Alongside our community shop, we distribute crisis bundles, children’s clothing packages (always free & always with toys and books), and support those facing acute hardship - including people with no recourse to public funds.

Everything we do is built on a simple belief:
everyone deserves to feel warm, confident, and seen.

We also exist to challenge waste. By rehoming donated items and keeping everything affordable (with nothing over £3), we create a circular, community-powered model that supports both people and planet.

The Closet is powered by volunteers, shaped by lived experience, and held up by a community that shows up - for each other, every day.
